Keep Balnarring Beach beautiful!

Our Shores, Our Responsibility

Balnarring Beach is a precious slice of the Mornington Peninsula. It sits right on Western Port Bay, forming a vital part of the internationally recognized Western Port Biosphere. But even beautiful places face hidden threats. Every piece of rubbish washed up or left on the sand impacts on this fragile ecosystem.

The Real Cost of Litter

Rubbish does much more than just ruin your perfect beach photos. It has a devastating impact on our local wildlife:

  • Marine Life Suffocation: Sea creatures often mistake plastic bags and soft plastics for food, leading to starvation.
  • Entanglement: Fishing lines, nets, and plastic rings trap local seals, dolphins, and fish, leaving them unable to swim or feed.
  • Threats to Seabirds: Gulls, terns, and migratory birds mistake small colourful plastic fragments for fish eggs or seeds, which poisons them or fills their stomachs with indigestible waste.
  • Visual Pollution: Let’s face it—no one wants to relax on a beach covered in chip packets, cigarette butts, and plastic bottles.

How You Can Help

We’ve teamed up with the bright minds at Balnarring Primary School to make it incredibly easy for locals and visitors to pitch in during their beach walk. Next time you head out, grab our community bucket and tongs, pick up what you see, empty it on the bin and return it for the next beach goer.

It doesn’t take a whole afternoon to make a difference. If every person who walks their dog or watched the sunrise picked up just three pieces of rubbish, our shores would stay immaculate.

Next time you visit, use our dedicated clean-up station, scan the code, and show our school kids that the community cares about the future they are building.

Thank you for keeping Balnarring Beach beautiful!
